While most people are excited for the warm weather of spring to finally arrive, this time of year is one of concern for those who suffer from seasonal allergies. The higher temperatures bring with them blooming plants and a higher pollen count, torturing allergy sufferers with their annual runny noses, watery eyes and itchy throats. Great ways to help combat this is with medication and air purifiers that can help keep the air in houses and offices free from potential pollutants. While the spring might be irritating for everybody with allergies, some cities are more affected than others.
According to a new study from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), Louisville, Kentucky, is the worst city for spring allergies in 2014. The city rose four spots since the list was released last year, where it sat at number five. Rounding out the top five cities were Memphis, Baton Rouge, Oklahoma City and Jackson. The study examines several factors before making its ultimate assessment, including pollen count, number of prescriptions per patient and number of allergists per patient in the most populous cities in the country.
“It’s the 12th year for this report, and it’s a reminder that, no matter where you live or what the outdoor conditions are, people need to take allergies seriously and have a treatment plan,” said Mike Tringale, AAFA’s senior vice president for external affairs.
